## Kit Submission and Sample Mailing Instructions
### Overview
This document explains how to complete the required submission form, provide the minimum contact details needed for follow-up, and mail in your samples for lab processing. It also notes where to find the sample-taking instructions and what turnaround time to expect once the lab receives the kit.
**Complete the Submission Form** [0:08]
- Fill out the form as soon as you receive the kit.
- At minimum, include:
- Your name
- Your phone number
- Your address
- Providing only an address is not enough, since there would be no way to contact you with results or follow-up questions.
- The form is used to identify who submitted the kit and to ensure results can be delivered promptly.
**Review the Sample Collection Instructions** [0:55](https://loom.com/share/f8dfa1cc2c924c2cb1bb4233967953d7?t=55)

- The video includes guidance on how to take the samples.
- Follow the sample collection steps before mailing anything in.
- This section is intended to help you prepare the kit correctly before sending it to the lab.
**Mail the Kit to EMSL Labs** [1:04](https://loom.com/share/f8dfa1cc2c924c2cb1bb4233967953d7?t=64)

- After collecting the samples, mail the kit to EMSL Labs.
- The mailing destination is shown in the video.
- Once the lab receives the kit, processing typically takes about 24 hours, even though the stated turnaround is 48 hours.
- Results will be sent to you after processing is complete.

Note: You cannot determine if a material contains asbestos by simply looking at it with the naked eye. Therefore, treat all suspect materials as if they contain asbestos.
- Wear the protective gloves and mask provided with the kit
- Shut down any heating or cooling systems to minimize the spread of any released fibers.
- Do not disturb the material any more than is needed to take a small sample.
- Wet the material using a fine mist of water containing a few drops of detergent before taking the sample. The water/detergent mist will reduce the possibility of releasing asbestos fibers.
-
Carefully cut/scrape a piece from the entire depth of the material using, for example, a small knife, chisel, or other sharp object.
-
Cut/scrape only a small piece of the material.
All materials can be grouped into two categories: friable, i.e. the material can be crushed into powder by hand (e.g., Acoustic ceiling spray), and nonfriable (e.g., Floor tile, Siding). These amounts are adequate for testing:
For friable samples - 1 teaspoon
For nonfriable samples - 1 square inch piece
(ONLY 1 inch is necessary. If floor tile, make sure piece has the glue(mastic) on the bottom)
- Place the small piece into the bags provided.
- Use a damp paper towel to clean up any material on the outside of the container or around the area sampled.
- Label the container with an ID number (for example, Sample #A)
Label A, B, C etc... and complete the form showing the same letter with a description - for example: Kitchen flooring
(Tightly seal the container after the sample is in it. - Fill Out Form: Name - Address - Sample label and description.
- Place samples and the Chain of Custody form into the mailing envelope provided and ship it. 🙂 You may want to get tracking so you know when it arrives.
Special Notes
- For acoustic ceiling (popcorn ceiling) material, three samples from different locations are strongly recommended if it covers more than 1,000 sq. ft (IF they look to be the same pattern, then this isn't necessary)
- For vermiculite insulation, (a rocky, stony material) collect at least one cup size sample. Take a sample from the attic floor or the bottom part of the wall cavity. Testing at least two samples from different spots in the attic is recommended.
- Do not send Dust or Soil/Dirt samples. These cannot be accurately analyzed by Polarized Light Microscope (PLM). Dust samples require analysis by Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM), which we currently do not provide.(IF you have any questions, don't hesitate to email me. Trey @ MisterAsbestos.com)
- We will notify you of the results by email within 48 hours of the time the lab receives it.

Please Give Us a Review
We are the new kid on the block, and we need those reviews. They will help a lot. The main reason I started these kits is that I saw reviews from others saying they weren't delivering, or that their turnaround time for getting results back was WAY too slow, and I knew we could do better.
** IF there is a problem, please email me, and I will make it right. Trey @ MisterAsbestos.com - or text me (706) 540 5334
Thanks in advance, Trey
